Elephant (GOP) Races

The race for the presidency! Perry just dropped out today, and with Huntsman out, Romney is still the frontrunner. Santorum and Gingrich are still trying to beat out Romney, but will it happen? There has been spitballs being thrown back and forth, especially with the South Carolina primary coming up. If Romney wins this one, it could mean no more presidential race for Santorum and/or Gingrich.
It is rather funny if you notice that the GOP candidates running now (excluding a few) have ran before, but have been the ones, like Gingrich and Paul, with the low poll ratings. Funny how they now have double digits ratings above 15-20%. Romney was the only close candidate last election to being nominated.

The "backrunners" for past races are now the frontrunners for this race. Is that good? Is there truly a good GOP candidate? What's your pick?

  4. Ron Paul will end the FED, IRS, end the wars, cut the debt down, close Gitmo, legalize marijuana, etc. Although he could just be lying like the rest of the politicians. One thing i will give him credit for is that he has kept the same views/ideas for the last 30 years.

  5. All of which are horrible ideas. The Fed is needed to control inflation, without it prices for stuff would be a lot higher. The IRS is needed to control the taxes. Ending wars are great, if we were in one. We need to be in afghanistan to keep it from becoming a terrorist state. Gitmo is needed so we do not have criminals of conflict an terrorists on our mainland soil. Legalizing marijuana comes with a whole new set of issues i will talk about later, mainly the degradation of society. And yes you are right, he deserves credit for being consistent

  6. Control inflation they are the creators of inflation through their QE and low interest rates! Do you realize our government is raiding pensions to pay to keep the debt paid now! We are broke and do some research on Afghanistan and you will find it is the graveyard of empires look at the Soviets in the 80s as it was one block they aiding the Soviet Union's collapse. The Brits tried in Afghanistan finding it cheaper to just bribe the tribes than maintain an army there. The IRS could be done away with a Flat Tax on goods purchased except necessities. Also keep the thieves in DC from over spending and keep them on a budget

  7. Inflations is caused by supply and demand factors as well as government spending. The Fed is only part of the problem, the spending the government does is a whole other problem. The Fed tries to, key word tries, to control this inflation by controlling the monetary supply and setting interest rates. As more banks place tighter restrictions on giving out loans and the bad economy, the Fed has set the interest rates low, to try to get people to start buying again...too bad it isn't working like that. The threat now is deflation.
Programs need to be cut, the only problem is, people are not willing to cut them if it benefits them, but are willing to cut others they don't directly benefit them, funny how that works.

I will say this time and time again, the main problem is the people that are voting. That want less government, but they still want to benefit and rely on the government, that is the sole problem. People want solutions to problems that don't affect them, but rather affect others. The selfishness and greed of the majority are the obstacles in America, not the inability of a few individuals. Once people come to see that sacrifice and living without benefits from the government is the necessary action that needs to be done, only then will this country start to be fixed. Until the people realize that they are a root cause of the problem, this country will never be fixed and continue on its roller coaster. But unfortunately nobody can change the entrenched habits of a man, only self-realisation can do that.

  8. Matt the Fed doesnt try as they set the US's monetary policy and allow for government debt as it benefits them. The only thing they try to do is find ways to sustain the debt. In short they keep the rate low not for us little people but to keep the government spending which they do as we are now at 100% of our GDP per debt ration. In short the Federal Reserve has bankrupted the US! Do you realize that people are getting loans now to get the basics in life. You are advocating a consumer economy which is not sustainable. Programs will be cut because eventually the Federal Reserve and government house of cards is going to collapse.

Do you really think the Fed is interested in the people and being held accountable. After all they bailed out European banks with our tax money which know one knew until it leaked. They gave bailouts to US banks which those too large to fail banks leaders gave themselves bonuses? Yet you still support the Fed and it allies in the large banks. You do realize that borrowing more money is nothing more than enslavement as the bank gets money for low rates from the Fed while raping the consumer for large APR's correct? Research my cousin. Lastly why do you defend a group that is no more federal than FEDEX yet holds the nation monetary policy hostage without any oversight or full audit? Lastly do some research on the Federal Reserve and the nations debt Google is your friend.

  9. Like I have stated, the Federal Reserve should not be a private entity, but become a government one, I believe my position on that was commented on this post, if not one of the other ones you have commented on. The spending this nation has done over the past 3 years correlates with where we are at not in terms of money supply, not to mention the lending of money to European banks.

The Federal Reserve should become a government agency in which Congressional oversight rules over the head of the Fed. That way, Congress basically controls the mint like the government should, and that only the U.S. Treasury, again under oversight of the Congress has the power to handle government money, not a private sector bank. This would shrink the Fed basically into the U.S. Treasury, but they would still exist as an agency under that department to handle specifically interest rates, the mint, and bonds. Again, all with oversight.

I think there may be a misunderstanding, If I am right you want the federal reserve to basically not exist and all those powers be given back to the government, and I want the Federal Reserve to be apart of the government with its powers vastly limited and under oversight. If I am wrong please do say so, otherwise that is what I am seeing at least in my understanding.
